Found in the very heart of southeastern Europe, Bosnia and Herzegovina has a long and captivating history.

Plentiful in natural springs, rivers, lakes and coastline Bosnia and Herzegovina derives its name from “bosana” (water). Under the rule of Herceg Stjepan (Duke Stjepan) the southern region acquired its name Hercegovina (The land of the Duke). Bosnia and Herzegovina is a truly remarkable destination offering a vast array of traditions, sights, culinary delights, and adventures.

 

Geography and Climate

With an exceptional geographical position in the heart of the Balkans, Bosnia and Herzegovina is comprised of gorgeous landscapes including Olympic Mountains, rich forests, stunning lakes, mesmerizing rivers and a variety of climates. 

The northern region encompasses the Southern Alps providing perfect conditions for winter activities such as skiing and snowboarding. Similar to the climate of central Europe; here there the snow is plentiful in the winter, and summer is a perfect temperature for any type of recreation. In the southern region you can find rocky mountains which will lead you to the coastline in Neum. Thus, the climate is warm and sunny with little snow in the winter. The central region is renowned for stunning forests, spring water rivers and meadows covered with gorgeous scenery. As a result of the variations in climate, Bosnia and Herzegovina is perfect all year round. 

 

Language and People

It is easy to get around, as most everybody speaks English, for it is a mandatory subject in Grade School. As of July 2015, Bosnia and Herzegovina is home to 3,867,055 people with various cultural and religious backgrounds. 

“I have seen the whole world, without moving a single step”, said for the Old Bridge in Mostar. Millions of visitors from every corner of the world, cross this world famous architectural feat annually. This is enough said regarding the familiarity of locals with visitors.
